Earth Day Art Contest Rules

Eligibility

Students who are eligible to participate must meet one of the following:

  • Student must reside in one of the following communities: Creekside, Miramar Lake, Preserve at Miramar Lake, Vintage Creek, Wildwood Glen, Willow Dell, Willow Forest, Willow Lake Village, Willow Springs, Willow Trace, Willows Edge.
  • Student must be enrolled and attend school at:
    • Klein Oak High School
    • Hildebrandt Intermediate School
    • Krimmel Intermediate School
    • Schultz Elementary School
    • Mueller Elementary School

Rules

  1. The 8th Annual Earth Day Art Contest begins on Monday, August 28, 2017 and ends on Friday April 6, 2018. No entries will be accepted after April 6, 2018 at 5 p.m.
  2. The theme of the art must be focused on water conservation in conjunction with the celebration of Earth Day which occurs each year during the month of April.
  3. Students shall submit only one piece of art per person in the competition.
  4. Students will create a piece of art no bigger than the following-
    • If 2 (two) dimensional, it cannot exceed 24” x 36”.
    • If 3 (three) dimensional, it cannot exceed 24” x 24” x 36”
  5. The art piece may be created in any medium (as long as it stays within the parameters stated in #4) including, but not limited to,
    • poster
    • painting
    • clay or pottery
    • sculpture
    • bronze
    • other
  6. All art must be submitted to the offices of M. Marlon Ivy & Associates, 19333 Haude Road, Spring, TX 77388 with the official entry form. If the student is under 18 years of age, a parent must sign the entry form granting approval for participation. Each piece of art must be packed or packaged in such a way to prevent any damage or breakage when it is submitted for judging. Neither the Dowdell Public Utility District nor M. Marlon Ivy & Associates assumes responsibility for an entry that is sent via USPS, FedEX or any other carrier that arrives broken or damaged.
  7. Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place per division (elementary, intermediate, high school). Additionally, first place winners will receive a $100 gift card. The Dowdell P.U.D. reserves the right to retain possession of the submissions that place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd until, at least, April, 2019. Winners will be notified and all others will pick up their submission by no later than May 4, 2018.

Tips for Winning!

  • Look at the theme – Water Conservation and how it relates to Earth Day.
  • Look up the definitions of water conservation and Earth Day.
  • Use a search engine such as Google, etc. to look for ideas on water conservation, Earth Day, etc.
  • Do not copy entries from previous years! Create original art!
  • Give yourself plenty of time to complete the art project!
  • Abstract art is wonderful but try to clearly communicate the theme!
  • You can't win if you don't submit!
  • Submit your work by the designated deadline.
